OUR TREATMENTS

Our treatment services are catered toward coming up with long-term solutions to our patients’ problems. We make sure to treat your injury by understanding the root reasons behind it. We do everything in our power to help you succeed in your recovery, through our decades of combined experience and our use of the latest technology to support our protocol.

1. Post-Operative Rehabilitation

After most types of musculoskeletal surgery, a period of post-operative rehabilitation is advised to help restore normal function.

This is done by working to restore normal...

  • Range of Motion

  • Strength

  • Core stability

  • Neuromuscular Control

  • Proprioception

  • Cardiovascular Conditioning

  • Limb Symmetry

As advised by your treating surgeon, our physiotherapists will help manage and develop an individualised program to help you return to baseline function. Our therapists have a strong relationship with numerous orthopedic surgeons and adhere to specific post-op protocols which ensures a collaborative approach to your care.

2. Sporting Injuries

Our physiotherapists have experience in assessing, diagnosing and treating sports injuries in all levels of sport.

These injuries include:

  • Ankle sprains

  • Groin strains

  • Hamstring strains

  • Shin splints

  • Shoulder injuries

  • Knee injuries

  • Patella-femoral pain + tendinitis

  • Tennis elbow

Early diagnosis and treatment is essential for athletes returning to sport safely.

Management may include:

  • Immobilisation

  • Bracing

  • Taping

  • Cryotherapy (GAME READY and Cryo Cuffs)

  • Manual therapy

  • Dry needling

  • Exercise prescription

  • Referral to appropriate specialists or imaging.

The largest risk factor associated with many sporting injures is previous injury. Our long-term goal is to prevent the recurrence of previous, and any other injuries.

3. Adolescent injuries

Adolescence is defined as the process of developing from a child into an adult. The prevalence of injury amongst the adolescent population is very high. Culturally in Australia, sport in the younger population is very popular. Unfortunately injuries do occur and need to be managed to minimise chronicity and return the young athlete to sport safely. At SportsFizz, our physiotherapists are experienced in working with athletes across a range of sports including soccer, rugby, AFL and netball.

Common injuries and pathologies that occur in the adolescent athlete include;

  • Osgood Shlatters

  • Severes

  • Shin splints

  • Stress fractures

  • Osteochondritis dissecans

  • Avulsion injuries

  • ACL tears

4. Other services

Dry needling

Dry needling is a technique whereby very fine needles are placed into overactive muscles with areas of increased tension in order to provide a “trigger point” release. The scientific research has been improving over the last few years and needling is now proven to be effective, when used in conjunction with conventional physiotherapy and exercise prescription.

Casting + Splinting

Musculoskeletal issues sometimes require a period of immobilisation to assist with proper healing. This is usually done by the application of some form of cast, splint or brace. All of our physiotherapists are trained in the application of fiberglass (waterproof) casts.

Also at SportsFizz we have in stock a large variety of CAM walker boots and immobilization braces that will aid you in your recovery.

5. Chronic Pain / Medicare (EPC)

Age-related musculoskeletal conditions are extremely common.

The most common areas are...

  • Hip

  • Neck and lower back (cervical and lumbar spine)

  • Shoulder

  • Knee

  • Ankle

A very common condition is Osteoarthritis (OA), a degenerative articular cartilage condition that can occur in any joint of the body. At this stage, in line with the most up-to-date research, exercise still remains the best treatment for maintenance of OA and for pain reduction.

A thorough assessment with a therapist and initial treatment sessions will lead to a comprehensive independent plan being provided followed by scheduled follow ups with the aim to improve strength, function and overall better quality of life.

Medicare

The Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) initiative was devised by the government to make allied health services such as physiotherapy more accessible to people suffering from chronic or long-standing musculoskeletal conditions. After consultation with your general practitioner (GP), 5 Medicare bulk billed sessions per year can be provided. This can be a good way to have your condition assessed and treated before a decision is made on whether continuation of treatment is necessary.

At SportsFizz we not only accept these referrals, but also will consult directly with your GP as needed to provide the most comprehensive care.

6. WorkCover / Workers Compensation

Workers Compensation is a scheme devised by the government to ensure you have access to the best available treatment if an injury occurs in the workplace.

All our physiotherapists have undergone WorkCover training courses and are accredited to treat patients under this scheme.

They have well developed skills used to:

  • assess and determine challenging work environments,

  • help identify specific work capacities, and to

  • provide graduated functional retraining programs to get you back to work and full function as soon as possible.

Workplace injuries include a vast array of conditions due to the very different work environments that we are all exposed to. From office related postural pain and headaches to post-operative rehab and fractures sustained from physical labour, our therapists are experienced to diagnose and treat it all.

On-site physiotherapy services are also provided. Our physios are trained in site and task analysis which can then be translated into workplace modification recommendation and specific exercise program development to attempt to better help employees for the conditions that they face at work. Other options that can be made available are on site treatment and health presentations to promote a healthier overall work environment.

8. Spinal Physiotherapy / Headaches

If back and/or neck pain is something that at one time or another you have suffered from, you will understand how the pain and sometimes associated dysfunction can impact on all facets of your daily life. In more recent times the treatment of these conditions has slightly changed and our physiotherapists are up to date with this.

Commonly treated conditions include:

  • Occupational injury

  • Chronic or recurrent spinal pain

  • Postural spinal pain

  • Acute sport/physical activity injury

We still utilise a strong hands-on approach with treatments including soft tissue massage, trigger point therapy, joint mobilisation and dry needling. Just as importantly, thorough postural and bio-mechanical assessment allows our therapists to provide a comprehensive home exercise programme of stretching, activation and strengthening protocols. In addition, our therapists will provide ergonomic advice for work and personal life.

Cervicogenic headaches are those that are related to cervical spine or neck pain. These can be diagnosed with a thorough assessment consultation. There are specific treatments in which all of our physiotherapists are trained in order to alleviate the pain. If you feel like your headaches are often preceded by neck pain or even if you just suffer from migraines where the cause is yet to be determined, our team can assess and administer the right treatment for optimal pain management.
