Pilates & Massage Therapy

Pilates exercises consist of more than 500 exercises that are done either on a mat on the floor, or using special exercise equipment. It is a technique that focuses on core strengthening, balance, and flexibility. Pilates based rehabilitation is one of the most effective forms of physiotherapy to treat knee, back, hip, shoulder and repetitive stress injuries.

A few advantages of Pilates include:

  • Strengthen and tone major muscle groups
  • Improves tone and can assist weight loss
  • Core strengthening
  • Increase flexibility and range of motion
  • Improves balance and stability
  • Calms and focuses the mind

Pilates based rehabilitation is suitable for people of all ages and is an excellent treatment for individuals with recurrent pain, fibromyalgia, chronic neck and back pain, some post-surgical conditions and for patients with overall de-conditioning. It is not limited to just these particular subgroups and forms an important part of the return to sport and maintenance of sporting injuries processes.

At Sportsfizz if required we aim to suitably refer between Physio and Pilates to ensure the most comprehensive care. It is best to wear comfortable clothing that is form fitting that you can move in and clean socks are also a requirement. Please bring along a towel and water.

Within our North Strathfield clinic we have a full time massage therapist, Michelle. Massage therapy is a great adjunct therapy to standard physiotherapy as well as a great treatment for day to day aches and pains.

Sports Massage Therapy

Aims to assist with the body’s optimal performance in training and recovery, injury prevention, soft tissue repair, reduce pain and soreness, correction of muscle imbalances and reduction in scar tissue. Deep tissue and stretching techniques incorporated.

Sports massage is not only just for athletes. Sports massage can benefit anyone, especially clients with injuries, chronic pain or restricted range of motion.

Relaxation/Swedish Massage Therapy

Relax and enjoy the benefits of massage with light to medium pressure. Relaxation massage aims to gently reduce muscle tension, improve circulation and let the client feel more balanced and relaxed.

Remedial Massage Therapy

Application of massage to a specific area or areas to assist in the reduction of pain and restriction and to optimise recovery for various injuries. Varying pressures (medium to deep) and techniques are applied to the body, focusing on tense or sore muscles and restricted soft tissue.

Pregnancy Massage Therapy

Can help reduce stress and tension, decrease arm and leg swelling, and relieve muscle and joint pain. During pregnancy, the body goes through major changes and this treatment is the perfect, soothing treat for expectant mothers

Myofascial Cupping Therapy

(add to a treatment for no additional cost)

This technique is incorporated into a remedial or sports massage treatment. It involves the gliding of negatively pressurised cups over the body – with the assistance of cream or oil – and can be accompanied by joint mobilisation and soft tissue release. It is a very different technique to traditional cupping and importantly, marking the skin is NOT part of the desired treatment outcome. It also should be performed at a pressure level that is almost painless for the client. It helps to loosen up tight bands of muscle and fascia and can help to decrease pain and increase mobility and function.
